My name is Adam McInturf.
I live in North Portland in an intentional community called the Church of the Servant King, where I am in the process of pursuing membership.
I work for Windows Booksellers and Wipf and Stock Publishers. Contact by email [adam@theologybooks.com] if you are interested in selling quality used books, or if you know of an out-of-print book that you would like to see reprinted.
This blog is a forum for exploring the shape that Christ is taking in the world. The means I have found useful for exploring that have been reading the Scriptures, reading theologians responding to the scriptures, and the ongoing conversations I share in my life together with the amazing people with whom God has thrown me into friendship.
The short version of the legend of Loretta goes something like this: Loretta was an old woman who live in a house down the street from Multnomah Bible College. Through several strange events, I came to live in her basement for two years with friends and a Golden Retriever sharing the space at various times. Along with charging us a criminally negligible amount for rent, Loretta provided us with such daily services as doing our laundry, washing our dishes, bathing the dog, and baking us brownies, to name just a few. Loretta had lived in that house for forty years, but for us she came from nowhere–a miracle of radical hospitality. Life at Loretta’s house was a parable of the sort of reception we find ourselves wrapped up in with God.
As Christians we are in a constant process of finding ourselves loved, accepted, and blessed in ways that we have no means to account for. That kind of wild hospitality is my aim for this blog. I want it to be a place of reflection and encounter. As such, I have no comment policy other than Wittgenstein’s advice for how philosophers ought to greet one another: “take your time.” If you seek dialog on matters pertaining to Christ, life and godliness, you are welcome here. On the other hand, if your interest is in validating your belief that you are right (or if you are trying to sell me Viagra), I will ask you to leave your comments elsewhere.
good to find this
Hello Adam,
I have enjoyed “stumbling across” your blog site! I like your values and faith, but would seriously question your desire to “never leave” Portland, Oregon (adding conveniently, unless God calls you)!! That’s great if God “calls” you, but surely your theology, hermeneutics, evangelicalism, ethics, christology, etc, will all expand and improve if you dared venture beyond the confines of Portland! Who wants to stay in the same place in such a diverse world? There’s too much going on! Why would you want to miss out on that?
In Him
Richard
I stumbled into your blog postings on an image search for a slide presentation on MLK for my middle school students. I enjoyed reading your posts. I’ll be back. Peace in Christ, Beth
