I’m putting my foot down on the ‘meme’ thing. How far must our individualism carry us as we navigate our way blindly through this life like a man in his briefs fumbling around the kitchen for a midnight snack?
At any rate, I would like to take some time out of my relatively un-busy day to tell the ‘blogosphere’ what I am excited about in the coming weeks / months.
1. One of my favorite (and least favorite) MCs has released a new mixtape for free. His name: Lil’ Wayne. His mixtape: ‘Da Drought 3′. The much anticipated followup to the stunning ‘Dedication 2′, which came out last year, stands as a sprawling 2-disc affair in which Wayne will probably talk about how ever since he was 4, he was dealing crack cocaine to his peers and killing them for no reason, his unadulterated love for the Los Angeles Lakers (despite his southern roots) and how many women with whom he has had intercourse in the last 5 minutes (a number that will surely reach around 3 figures).
In light of his lifestyle and financial prowess, Lil’ Wayne treats the listener to a veritable buffet of curse words and new slang terms as he throws his drawl all over the mic like he has nothing better to do. His cocky claim to be the ‘best rapper alive’ in his last tape may be a bit of an overstatement, but at least he’s doing what no one else is doing: making tons of music and giving it away for free. If you get the chance, check out the pompous idiocy of this young sounthern gentleman. He may only have a handful of brain cells, but he certainly knows what he’s doing.
2. On the other side of the popular music coin, Austin, TX’s Spoon has finally finished their ridiculously titled new record, ‘Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga’. Give me a break. However, Spoon brings the pain consistently (and has been for almost a decade) with terse, catchy pop songs that are just as enjoyable as they are inventive. I recently heard the new single (’The Ghose of You Lingers’) and I am very, very excited to listen to this new record. I have it on my computer as of this morning, but I think it comes out in July or something.
3. Another exciting occurrence is my completion of college. Of course, as with the end of anything, this accomplishment is not without its own new set of problems, but I am still excited.
4. These are in no particular order, but I am very excited to get married on August 30th to Anna King. I am more excited about this than Lil’ Wayne’s new mixtape.
Anyway, since I’m just killing time, I may as well get back to the behemoth summer treat, ‘The Brothers Karamazov’. Enjoy your day.
dealing crack, murder and lots of sex…Ryan, let me guess– you went to a Christian High School didn’t you?
Sure did! What could be more exciting than sin?
Congratz on graduation and, most importantly, your pending nuptials.
Enjoy the Brothers K - it is of much greater cultural and artistic value than your much touted MC.
I didn’t see “Coffee with Sam Albertson on the crisp morn of Friday May 25th” on your list. Bastard.
“well, i’m lil’. and ma name’s wayne. i was thinkin’ ’bout… lil’ wayne.”
